Is your puppy crying the second you step out of sight?
Are you hesitating to start with your puppy’s separation training because you’re worried you might mess it up?
Knowing when, what and how can be tricky, I totally understand. I never wanted to leave little Wolfgang home alone, she was way too cute to not stare at her 24/7 😂
Every pup is different and it’s important you get to know your pup first so you can spot early stress signals, what they can happily handle, what the right set up is for your pup and so forth.
You don’t have to start the second your pup comes home, of course, but it pays off to start working on building your puppy’s confidence early on, so when the time comes to ease them into the absence training routine, it will be smoother for the both of you.
And don’t worry if your puppy is shadowing your every step. Pups are hardwired to follow you around, that doesn’t mean your pup won’t be able to be happy home alone! I’ve had clients who’s dogs would follow them everywhere around the home, but are then happily home alone snoozing an vice versa.
Make your pup’s home alone time training part of your daily socialisation and habituation efforts and if you need help, I offer a ‘Separation Training Starter Pack’ that includes assessing your puppy’s current abilities and teaching YOU all the components needed for a successful training journey.
Plus, a tailored 2-week training plan and follow up consult will set you and your dog off on the right path to happy home alone time.
