Puppy toilet training: 3 little-known scenarios that could be behind your puppy still having accidents

Puppy training is a roller coaster #fact

Which is why both my in-person and my remote puppy training programmes come with daily messenger check-ins 🤓

Those daily bits of troubleshooting, sharing progress, celebrating highs and motivating you through lows are at the heart of my training programmes 💚

Which is exactly how I was able to identify the underlying reasons behind my clients’ puppy toilet training troubles.

➡️ Puppy client No1 was on meds that made him drink more, which his human didn’t always notice. He simply couldn’t hold it, which resulted in more accidents. Once off his meds and with initially more supervision, he got straight back into a reliable routine.

➡️ Puppy client No2 had a mild UTI. The lack of obvious signs made it hard to detect. When she had to go, she had to go IMMEDIATELY. I’ve asked the client to take her puppy to the vet to rule out medical issues. Once she was given the right help from the vet, the accidents stopped.

➡️ Puppy client No3 lives on busy road. She would pee out on a walk, then immediately pee again when back inside. She didn’t feel safe enough to fully empty her bladder with all that noise and commotion around her, when out walking. So we found her a safe spot, and the accidents stopped.
